When to Go Where

Timing decides more about a northern trip than any other choice. The high valleys are locked by snow for much of the year and the roads that reach them open late and close early, so an itinerary that is glorious in July is simply not possible in April.

  • April to June — blossom in Hunza and Skardu, green Kaghan, comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds
  • July and August — everything is open, including Deosai, Khunjerab and Shandur; also the busiest weeks and the peak of the monsoon further south
  • September and October — the finest light of the year, autumn colour in Hunza, settled weather and thinner traffic
  • November to March — Murree, Nathia Gali and Swat for snow; the far north largely closed

What a Package Includes

Transport with an experienced driver, accommodation, and an itinerary paced for the group rather than for the map. We build in the things that inexperienced planners leave out: a spare afternoon for weather, an early start on the days that need one, and hotels chosen for where they sit rather than for the photograph on the booking site.

Meals, entry fees, jeep sectors and permits are quoted explicitly as included or excluded — you will not find them appearing later as extras.

Travelling with Family or Elders

Altitude, long driving days and rough jeep sections are the three things that turn a northern holiday uncomfortable for grandparents and small children. All three can be planned around: shorter daily distances, an overnight at intermediate altitude before going higher, hotels with lifts and rooms on lower floors, and honest advice about which excursions to skip. Tell us who is travelling and we will build the itinerary to suit them rather than handing you a fixed programme.

Practical Notes

Mobile coverage is patchy beyond the main highway and absent in several valleys, so tell family at home to expect silence for a day or two rather than to worry. Carry cash — card acceptance is limited outside the larger towns and ATMs are scarce and sometimes empty. Landslides and weather occasionally close a road for a few hours; a well-built itinerary has enough slack to absorb that without collapsing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need for Hunza?

Six to seven from Islamabad by road, allowing two full days in the valley. Skardu adds three. Flying to Gilgit or Skardu saves two days each way when the weather cooperates, though those flights cancel readily and a road contingency is wise.

Do you take small groups and couples?

Yes. Private itineraries run from two people upward, and we also arrange shared departures where cost matters more than flexibility.

Are permits needed?

Some areas require documentation for foreign nationals and occasionally for certain routes. We handle whatever your itinerary needs.

Can you arrange a corporate retreat or a school trip?

Yes, including multi-vehicle transport, group accommodation and a coordinator travelling with the party.
