Planning Your Trip to Uganda

Uganda — the “Pearl of Africa” — is one of the few places on earth to track mountain gorillas in the wild, alongside classic savannah game parks, the source of the Nile, and some of the friendliest travel logistics in East Africa.

Best time to visit

The dry seasons, December to February and June to September, are best for gorilla trekking and general wildlife viewing.

Currency

Ugandan Shilling (UGX). US Dollars are widely accepted for tours and hotels.

Flying time

Typically one or two stops from Pakistan, arriving at Entebbe International Airport.

Language

English is an official language, so travel and communication are straightforward.

Where Our Clients Usually Go

  • Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, gorilla trekking
  • Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Murchison Falls National Park
  • Source of the Nile, Jinja
  • Lake Bunyonyi
  • Kampala and the Kasubi Tombs

Before You Apply

Most refusals we see are avoidable. They come from a file that contradicts itself — dates that do not match bookings, funds that appear from nowhere, or a stated purpose the documents do not support. A few things are worth getting right from the start.

  • The Yellow Fever certificate is mandatory and is checked before travel authorisation is granted — arrange vaccination well ahead of your application.
  • A confirmed hotel booking and return ticket are expected.
  • Family groups should be submitted as one application set rather than separately.
  • Apply early: processing is normally 2–3 working days, but authorities recommend allowing 10.
  • Keep every document consistent, so that names, dates, employer details and travel dates agree everywhere.
  • Never submit anything you cannot stand behind, as a single questionable document can close a destination to you for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Uganda visa on arrival?

No. All visa applications must be submitted and approved online in advance through the official DCIC portal; paper applications and visa-on-arrival are not processed.

Can I combine Uganda with Kenya and Rwanda on one visa?

Yes — the East Africa Tourist Visa covers single entry into all three countries and is worth considering if your itinerary includes more than Uganda.

How long is the e-visa valid for?

The approval letter expires 90 days after issue and travel dates must fall within that window. Ask us for the current position for your specific visa category.

Requirements, fees and processing times are set by the relevant authority and can change without notice. Speak to a Sky Travel consultant for the position that applies on the day you apply.
